Workshop Background and Goals

The Model-Driven Architecture (MDA) is an approach to the development of IT systems fostered by the Object Management Group (OMG) that separates the specification of the system functionality from its implementation on a particular platform. A common pattern of MDA development is to define a platform-independent model (PIM) of a system, and to apply (parameterised) transformations to this PIM to obtain one or more platform-specific models (PSMs). In this context, PIMs are reusable models that consolidate the application development effort. Furthermore, MDA advocates the use of OMG core technology, especially the Meta-Object Facility (MOF) and MOF-compliant languages such as UML and CWM. The potential benefits of MDA are reduction on development costs, improvement of software quality, reduction of maintenance costs and the support for controlled evolution of IT systems. MDA has been applied in many application areas, such as real-time and embedded systems, and telecommunication systems, and, more recently, to the development and integration of enterprise information systems. The goal of this workshop is to bring together people working on MDA techniques and tools, and applying them on enterprise information systems, so that they can exchange their experience with the use of MDA, create new ideas, evaluate and improve MDA and spread its use.

Main Topics

Topics of interest include, but are not restricted to:

• Applications of MDA in EIS.
• PIM and PSM metamodels for EIS.
• Model Driven Specification Engineering Process.
• Domain Specific Languages (DSL).
• Model Transformation Languages and Tools.
• Applying MDA to Databases.
• Applying MDA to Enterprise Application Integration (EAI).
• Ontology and MDA.
• Business Process and MDA.
• Applying MDA to reverse-engineering and software maintenance within the EIS context.
• Application of MDA for Management of heterogeneous IT Environments
• Modeling and Simulation (M&S) MDA applications
• Automatic Mapping Tools: theory and implementation.
• J2EE and dotNET in the MDA context for building EIS.
• Barriers for MDA adoption in EIS: barriers and solutions.

Format of the Workshop

The workshop will comprise of invited talks and oral presentations of previously submitted papers that went through a double peer review process. The proceedings of the workshop will be published in the form of a book.

Submission of Papers

Prospective authors are invited to submit papers for oral presentation in any of the areas listed above. Only full papers in English will be accepted, and the length of the paper should not exceed 10 pages. Instructions for preparing the manuscript (in Word and Latex format) are available at the ICEIS web site. Postscript/RTF versions of the manuscript should be submitted thru ICEIS web-based paper submission procedure.

All accepted papers will be published in workshop proceedings book with an ISBN#, which will be printed by INSTICC Press . The proceedings will be available at the time of the workshop.

Important Dates

Full paper submission: February 15, 2005
Author notification: March 8, 2005
