Background and Goals
Since the development of the first recommender
system in the early 90's there has been a lot of interest both from
academia and industry in the area of recommender systems research.
With the deployment of recommender technology by e-commerce giants
such as amazon.com, the basic technology has very quickly gone from
the research world to popular applications. With today’s increasing
information overload problem the area of recommender systems
research remains to be more challenging than ever before.
The main goal of this workshop is to provide a forum where current
researchers and practitioners can meet and discuss the issues
related to recommender systems research. The themes will be in
algorithms, applications and interfaces.
This workshop solicits high-quality papers for presentation
describing original research results in recommender systems, some of
which will be considered for special issue journal publication.
WPRSIUI'08, is the fourth in the series and follows the successful
workshops WPRSIUI'05, WPRSIUI'06, and IEEE WPRSIUI’07 held in
conjunctions with ICETE 2005 , AH 2006, IEEE ICDE 2007.
This workshop will offer an opportunity for researchers and
practitioners to exchange ideas about past, present and future
trends in Web personalization, Recommender systems and Intelligent
User Interfaces.

online through the online submission system. Instructions for
preparing the manuscripts are available at the ICEIS web-site:
http://www.iceis.org/ In addition, an e-mail must be sent to
both co-chairs of the Workshop indicating the title of the submitted
paper and the area of interest.
