Demonstrations provide researchers and practitioners with an exciting and interactive opportunity to present their systems, artifacts and/or research prototypes, either at a regular session or at the technical exhibition. In any case, it is required to avoid a commercial format, even if the demo consists of presenting a business product or service. Instead, the presentation should focus on technical aspects.
Any written support materials may be distributed locally but not published in the proceedings. Authors who already present a paper at the conference may apply for a demonstration, to complement but not to replace their paper presentation. Demonstrations can also be made by sponsor companies or as a mixed initiative involving researchers and industrial partners.
Demonstrations are based on an informal setting that encourages presenters and participants to engage in discussions about the presented work. This is an opportunity for the participants to disseminate practical results of their research and to network with other applied researchers or business partners.

Concerning the format of the demo, we can accommodate it either as a demonstration in a booth (physical area of 4 sq. meter, with a table and 2 chairs) at the exhibition area, as a poster or as a 20 min oral presentation at a session especially set up for demonstrations. It is also possible to organize the presentation of the same demo in more than one format. Please contact the event secretariat.

Dr Shyam Parhi joined FAA in 2010 and since then he is leading the development effort of Airports GIS at Airport Engineering division of FAA. In this position he oversees the work of a team engaged in development, testing, and maintenance of Airports GIS. He has extensive experience working in academia, industry, and federal government. His previous work in University of Delaware and NASA mainly focuses on modeling and simulation of fluid flows.
FAA’s (Federal Aviation Administration) Airports GIS program hosts a few geospatial applications. Airports GIS allows its authorized users to submit changes to airport data. The users submit airports data using a survey application available through Airports GIS. One of the requirements for Airports to submit this data is to provide project related Airport imagery (aerial or LIDAR) to Office of Airports, one LOB of FAA. The Office of Airports used to archive these imageries for future use after appropriate validation and verification of relevant data. However, this storage consumed a lot of space and the data was not easily manageable. Hence, we developed an application in Airports GIS which helped us upload these imageries to Amazon GovCloud, a secure cloud environment. Once the imageries are in the cloud, the users can visualize them using an instance of ESRI ArcGIS available in the GovCloud. Hence, Cloud serves a few purposes: storage, management, and more importantly visualization. We are also developing electronic Airport Layout Plan (eALP) for funded Airports so that Airports can automate the process of creating ALP, and replace paper copy version of ALP by electronic version. The SAV (Surface Analysis and Visualization) tool helps Airports to determine the penetrations of obstructions through approach and departure surfaces and help provide a mitigation plan.
