Dr. Thomas J. Greene is a Research Staff member of the MIT Laboratory for Computer Science. Dr. Greene completed his PhD in Theoretical Physics at the University of Toledo in 1973. For the last 11 years he has worked on a variety of computer projects at MIT-LCS. Following a Masters degree at Harvard in 1990 in University Administration he has performed several administrative functions at MIT-LCS. Recently working with Tim Berners-Lee he helped establish at MIT-LCS the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), building both consortium membership and the world wide team membership. Prior to that he managed the MIT-LCS Project SCOUT 128 node CM5 super computer, used by LCS Computer Scientsts and Physicists, Biologists, Oceanographers and other computational scientists at MIT, Harvard and BU.
Before joining MIT-LCS in 1986, Dr. Greene was a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Petroleum & Minerals in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. During his ten years in Arabia, he established a department of Computer Science. He has taught university courses in many computer science subjects and physics subjects. Beginning with his early career in Physics he has published, 46 journal articles, conference papers and spoken at a variety of conferences in the US, in Europe (Portugal, Spain, Germany, Belgium) and in the Middle East. During his career he has been a visiting Scientist at Stanford university, IBM Cambridge Scientific Center and the NASA manned spacecraft center in Houston.
