Brief Bio
Since 2006 Hans-Georg Fill is assistant professor at the Research Group Knowledge, which is part of the Faculty of Computer Science of the University of Vienna, Austria. In 2010 he was awarded an Erwin-Schrödinger Fellowship for conducting a one year research project at Stanford University, USA in the context of semantic-based modeling for information systems. He holds a degree in international business administration (equiv. BSc & MSc) and a PhD in business informatics both from the University of Vienna. He is an active member of the Open Model Initiative, where he maintains the Semantic-based Modeling Framework for Information Systems project (SeMFIS) that provides a tool for managing semantic aspects in conceptual models about information systems. His research interests include semantic-based conceptual modeling and visualization, semantic business process and performance management and the application of these approaches in the health care sector and the banking industry.

SCOPE

Different contexts, including heterogeneous software and data sources, as well as evolving needs for cooperation between enterprise actors, are bringing new challenges therefore making business processes flexibility and systems interoperability essential characteristics of modern business organizations.
In recent years, IT environments have become more complex and more heterogeneous due to diverse customer needs and rapid innovation in the IT industry. As a result, it is often time-consuming and expensive to manage IT systems that involve multiple vendors and multiple technology platforms. Enterprise System Integration aims at reducing complexity and cost, enabling a high performance workforce, and optimizing the IT infrastructure.
