Enhancing Industrial Information Exchange in Service Architectures and Collaborative Business Processes

Authors:

Petri Kannisto

Abstract: This paper presents the challenges and shortcomings of the current utilities and practices for industrial information exchange and collaborative business processes. While several enabling technologies exist, the data exchange between industrial enterprises is currently inefficient: even though some relevant data exists, accessibility problems may either make it difficult to utilize or prevent its use completely. The lack of common practices and modelling methods causes unnecessary costs and makes it difficult to utilize existing resources. The target of the work introduced in the paper is a doctoral degree, the contribution being a comprehensive set of architectural principles and practices to improve industrial information exchange and business collaboration.

Principles and Metrics to Improve Quality in SOA Applications

Authors:

Joyce M. S. França and Michel S. Soares

Abstract: Service-Oriented Architectures (SOA) have emerged as an architectural approach for building distributed applications based on the concept of assembling services. Currently, the growing complexity of software requires greater attention about the quality of the produced applications. Many advances in SOA quality have been proposed in the literature, such as definitions of quality models, attributes and some metrics. However, many research gaps were found and thus much more needs to be done in this research area. There is a lack of metrics and tools to evaluate quality in SOA. Another aspect that needs to be addressed is the application and evaluation of research in accordance with the ISO 25000 standard. Therefore, this research project is mainly aimed at addressing relevant issues in the quality of service-oriented applications that have not been adequately explored. This paper presents the state of the art in the area of quality in SOA, the objectives that have been defined, the methodology to be followed to achieve the objectives, and the expected outcomes of the research project.

Personal Data Usage and Management

Authors:

Beatriz San Miguel, Jose M. del Alamo and Juan C. Yelmo

Abstract: Personal data about users (customers) is a key component for enterprises and large organizations. Its correct analysis and processing can produce relevant knowledge to achieve different business goals. However, there is a great deal of controversy surrounding its usage and management. Different legislations and organizations promote an evolution of the current context. Mainly, they envision a new personal data ecosystem where users have more control about their data, while allowing enterprises their usage. The PhD project presented here addresses different issues of this new paradigm. In particular, we focus on the specification of a personal data framework that allows enterprises to register, discover, access, recover and use personal data and specifically, user models, while providing users with tools and mechanisms to manage and control their data.

Agile Information Systems for Collaborative Enterprises

Authors:

Barbara Livieri

Abstract: In the last years, new challenges have arisen for both business and technical aspects due to the movement towards a collaborative-SMEs-driven society, where collaborative enterprises are used as catalysts of competitive advantages. However, between 50%-70% of Collaborative Enterprises fails, due to the lack of tools and methods to measure performance in an inter-organizational environment, where common boundaries of firms fail. In this scenario, a new role has been recognized to Enterprise Information Systems. As stated from FInES annual report, IS should “enable new forms of participation and collaboration, catalyze further the formation of networked enterprises and business ecosystems. In this project, a possible solution to face these challenges is offered. The general objective is to build a framework and a set of tools to support the governance of CEs through monitoring and benchmarking. This can be enabled through a comprehensive online service, based on enterprise modelling techniques, the creation of a collaborative web application and of repositories, taxonomies and ontologies for CEs.

Toward a Software Architecture Design Method - A Framework for Architecture Design

Authors:

Paola Yuritzy Reyes Delgado, Laura C. Rodríguez-Martínez, Hector A. Duran-Limon, José Manuel Mora Tavarez, González Ricardo Mendoza and Mario Alberto Rodríguez Díaz

Abstract: Software Architecture (SA) design is an essential activity that defines the highest level of abstraction of a System Software (SS), and the design decisions taken during this activity, positively or negatively be reflected in the following activities: construction, implementation and maintenance of the SS. However, currently most of software architecture design methods are focused on the development of generic software systems, i.e., those methods do not consider the application domain area. In this paper we propose a software architecture design method for Web-based service-oriented software systems. This new design method builds on the General Method of evaluation of SA design methods, defined by Hofmeister et al., (2007), and a review of the activities and artifacts of four general Software Development Methodologies (SDM) and service-oriented SDM. We will compare the effectiveness of our software architecture design method with others software architecture design methods. For this purpose, different software architecture design methods will be employed by a group of software engineering students in a case example.

Enterprise Information Systems Role in Business Transformation in Cloud Environments

Authors:

Ziyuan Fan

Abstract: The paper will present an approach for assessment of the success of cloud systems usage in innovation on the basis of system abilities to differentiate between the various knowledge characteristics required for the innovation. The aim of this research is to demonstrate the impact of cloud computing in an organisation. In the computer world today, cloud computing is an integral aspect generally progressing. This research will identify the contributions of cloud computing to a modern organization and include cloud computing hosted services, such as IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS. Several implementation scenarios are assessed for merits, deficiencies, implementation issues and the costs associated with each. Ideally, what are required are an economic analysis of business strategies, and a quantitative evaluation of the performance of the company’s business processes.
